PE occupies two hours a week in each of Years 7 and 8, and one hour plus the option of more in Year 9. In Years 10 and 11, students follow the GCSE PE course or the BTEC PE course.
Sports offered at the school include football, netball, hockey, badminton, athletics, cross country, basketball, kayaking, tennis, rugby, trampolining, rounders, gymnastics, cricket and lacrosse. The school uses the fitness centre at Sale Leisure Centre, and takes students rock climbing and orienteering. School teams compete both locally and regionally.
As well as teaching and coaching, there are opportunities for students to play sport for fun – and fitness – and for them to learn coaching and sports organiser skills. Through the Trafford South Schools Partnership, our students are encouraged to organise festivals and competitions for our partner primary schools. These include multi skills festivals, lacrosse competitions, football tournaments and other events. They can gain the Junior Sports Leaders’ Award.
Resources
The school has a large indoor sports hall and a gymnasium as well as extensive outdoor playing fields. It has indoor cricket nets, trampolines and a weight training fitness area.
Sports clubs
The department runs lots of sports clubs for enjoyment, at lunchtimes and after school. All students are welcome to these.
