Sale High School : Focus on science and engineering
Focus on science and engineering

Year 9 students got an insight into the world of science and technology today, when Salford University speaker Helen Brown came to speak to them today (3rd February).

Helen, a physics graduate and Recruitment Officer for the university, gave a lively talk which challenged the students’ ideas about science and engineering. Many of us think of “mad scientists” but the reality is that science and engineering skills are needed in almost every career and walk of life.

Scientists are people who find out how things work, and engineers are problem-solvers. Helen encouraged the
students to define what they knew about science as a career and gave them an idea of what the options could be - as well as how science and engineering qualifications lead to good jobs.

The students asked lots of questions about the qualifications they’d need to follow a wide range of careers, and showed great ambition. They will soon be making decisions about their options for GCSE, so it’s a vital time for them to learn about career opportunities.
