Freya Dew and Mike Bown have been selected by staff and students as the Head Girl and Boy for 2009-10, supported by Georgina Burke and Martin Blain as their deputies.
Freya came to us from Brooklands Primary School, choosing SHS after looking at several local secondaries. She says she chose the school because she liked the atmosphere and the teachers she met at the Open Evening, and says now “I’d recommend Sale High to anyone. It’s a great school with good teachers, good discipline and a good relationships.”
Georgina went to St Anne’s Primary and says she feels that Sale High offers students support in all areas of their lives, not just academic study. She is taking Performing Arts as her vocational subject, but has plans for a medical career so knows she needs to do well in her GCSEs as well.
Freya and Georgina see their role as to support the school rules and policies, like uniform, and also to help change and develop aspects of the school, in consultation with the staff. They helped out at the recent Open Evening, taking part in the School Showcase performance and taking one of the tours around the facilities.
Mike and Martin both came to SHS from Moorlands Junior School. They are both keen footballers and school Sports Captains, helping with after school sports clubs and coaching younger pupils. Both play in the school football team and also play outside school, Mike for Sale Utd and Martin for Unicorn FC.
Both are looking at sports-related courses at college next year. Mike says his years at Sale High have given him self-confidence and he enjoys the good relationship he has with the staff as Head Boy.
All four are looking forward to representing and supporting the school in any way they can, because it has helped them so much over their years here. As Freya said, “I’ve seen the school develop and I love it: I want everyone to know what a good school it is.”
