Marcus was born a footballer! At the tender age of 1, he kicked his first football and he has never looked back. By the age of 3, he was attending a soccer school which was held on the Fletcher Moss playing fields. Whilst training at the age of 6 years old, he was spotted by Dave Horrocks who is a scout for Manchester United Development Centre. He was so impressed that he approached Marcus’ mum and requested that she consider Marcus attend the Development Centre. From there, the group of boys including Marcus went for trials at The Cliff for 6 weeks and Marcus was the only one who was signed up from that group. That’s where his career and future begins!
As Marcus has always been a keen Manchester United supporter, this was every little boy’s dream. Since then Marcus has excelled and has skills beyond his years. He joined Sale High School as a Year 7 student in September 2009, after attending Button Lane Primary School: he lives in Northern Moor with his mum, Melanie, and brother Dane.
Marcus has always been a Manchester United supporter attending Old Trafford on a regular basis to watch their home games. And he is hoping that eventually he will be swapping his seat at the ground for a red shirt on the pitch with the number 7 on his back!
Unfortunately for Sale High School, Marcus will be leaving us at the end of Year 7 to attend Ashton on Mersey school which is the next step of the programme with Manchester United. He will then be playing for the under 13’s team and attending more training sessions whilst also living away from home Monday to Friday.
When Marcus was interviewed for this article, he said that he had mixed emotions about leaving us. He has made so many new friends and has had a fabulous time in Year 7 that he will find it hard to leave, but promises to stay in touch and let us know how he is doing. Marcus has promised his Head of Year, Miss Howard, that when he is famous he won’t forget her and may even send her tickets to come and watch one of his games when on the first team of Manchester United ! So Marcus, from all at Sale High, we wish you the very best of luck and are sure that you will be the next Wayne Rooney before we know it!
