Beatles tribute band “The Cheatles” brought their own versions of Beatles hits to Sale High School as part of a Year 8 study day on the arts and music of the 60s on Wednesday 30th June.
The day opened with a concert by the band for all Year 8 students, then band members worked with groups of students during the day in performance and lyric workshops. Students also looked at the work of artist Peter Blake and other pioneers of sixties design, before creating their own “Sergeant Pepper”-inspired CD cover.
At the end of the day, the students working best together performed with “The Cheatles” on stage, leading a mass singalong of “Let it Be”.
Students have been learning about the effects of the second World War, post-war austerity and rationing, and the flowering of optimism and freedom in all aspects of culture that came with the sixties. Wednesday was the culmination of this work, bringing music, art and ICT studies together for an exciting, and educational, day.
