Year 7 students enjoyed an afternoon off-timetable on Friday 26th February - and learned more about the work of the Fair Trade movement as part of Fair Trade Fortnight.
Combining ICT skills with Citizenship and Humanities studies, the aim of the afternoon was for students to learn more about life in developing countries and how the Fair Trade movement is trying to improve working and living conditions overseas.
The first activity of the day involved role play - working in teams to make products for rich countries, as if the students were themselves in a Third World country. A mix of presentations and activities was designed to combine the skills of team working and creativity with developing an understanding of how Fair Trade brings benefits to people and countries.
Then students used their IT skills to design a Fair Trade logo using the Fireworks software, and transferred it onto a T shirt to take home - a reminder of their work today and an opportunity to raise the profile of Fair Trade whenever they wear it.
